WittKieffer is partnering with Carilion Clinic on their search in identifying a highly collaborative, engaging and mission oriented finance leader to serve as its next Vice President of Enterprise Revenue Cycle. Based in Roanoke, Virginia, Carilion Clinic is a $2.2 billion not-for-profit health system and one of Virginia’s leading health care organizations. The integrated clinic model offers a patient-centered comprehensive network of hospitals, primary and specialty physician practices, and other complementary services. Anchored by Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 703-bed, level one trauma center which serves as the academic flagship for the clinic supported by five surrounding community hospitals.

Reporting to Donald Halliwill, Chief Financial Officer of Carilion Clinic, the Vice President of Enterprise Revenue Cycle will provide leadership and support to a strong team of leaders in billing, patient access, revenue cycle operations, coding and customer service. Together the leadership and staff within revenue cycle have fostered a culture were transparency and collaboration are defining characteristics of the team. The Vice President will inherit a team that has made significant advancements in optimizing reimbursement in a cost-effective and compliant manner while supporting the system’s strong and stable balance sheet that includes a AA- rating with S&P and an Aa3 bond rating with Moody’s. Carilion Clinic has a history of positive operating margins which has enabled the organization to make investments including the recent announcement of a $500 million expansion of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the adjacent Behavioral Health Building in the Roanoke Innovation Corridor.

The Vice President of Enterprise Revenue Cycle is a key leader within Carilion Clinic. The ideal candidate will bring considerable experience leading a wide breadth of revenue cycle functions in an integrated health system and must possess a continuous quality and process improvement / innovation / automation mindset. This position provides strategic direction in the development of critical revenue cycle management initiatives. The Vice President will ensure key revenue cycle metric’s and KPI’s are monitored and adhered to while continuing to support a culture with effective teamwork and a commitment to mentoring and growth. The successful candidate will have ten years of demonstrating progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. Success in progressive revenue cycle leadership roles as part of a complex and integrated health system and/or revenue cycle consulting, which may include multiple hospital sites and physician groups. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required while a Master’s degree and/or CPA is preferred. Candidates must have the ability to be a thought-leader focused on the future with a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to listen with intent and be open to others’ ideas, including when means taking measured risks.
