Accomplishments and interests

2016 Accomplishments

I was successfully able to implement the new cost accounting structure for Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Decision Support System after EPIC-Go Live in 2016.

Past Accomplishments

I have a passion for history and early politics. I am still proud of the essay I wrote that was featured in the Virginian Pilot in 2006 as a senior at Western Branch High School titled “Does America Still Need Black History Month?”

Interests

Other interests include reading Christian apologetics and devotional books and my current favorites are “Live, Love, Lead” by Brian Houston and “The Pursuit of God” by A.W. Tozer.

I enjoy mentoring and actively mentor in a ministry called the Girls of Afton Place and I also teach the 4 year olds at my church, LibertyLive Greenbrier.

Personal and career goals

After being in healthcare for only 2 years now, my current career goals and passion have changed; my passion for the next 5 years is to assist in healthcare initiatives through public policy that center on better health outcomes for the low-income communities throughout the nation. I believe this in turn could reduce the cost of charity care that most hospitals encounter each year. I am personally focused on this professional career goal too by leading a more active and healthier lifestyle within my family and surrounding community but also being more inquisitive and researching healthcare legislation that affords everyone the opportunity to achieving good health.

Favorites: When I’m not at work, I enjoy…

…listening to rhythm and blues music and attending live concerts from groups and performers such as Sade, the Lumineers, Fifth Harmony, and Hillsong. In the summertime, I love having socials and going to the beach with friends. East Beach in Norfolk, Virginia is my favorite beach in the area. I also enjoy editing and writing resumes for my friends and family members. I really relax byway of cruising and I have been to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, St. Thomas and Grand Turk thus far. My dream cruise will be to the Greek Islands.

What objectives do you hope to accomplish as a member of HFMA?

As a HFMA member, I hope to gain through the organization more confidence and professional skills as a new analyst in healthcare. I am so thankful to have found this organization by way of Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s Finance department. I am very excited about bridging a solid partnership between HFMA and college students throughout the Virginia and District of Columbia area. I would love to see more college and young adult professionals get the opportunity to attend HFMA events but also gain access to such seasoned and skilled leaders in the healthcare finance arena.

Any other information you would like to share

Every HFMA event I have attended I have thoroughly enjoyed the presenters and the content shared within the groups. My favorite breakout session of the 2016 Fall Educational HFMA VA-DC conference was “Healthcare Fraud and Elder Abuse” by Andrew Barone and Joseph McMenamin.
